Welcome to the Zoely® information hub. We hope you find all the information you need to start your journey on Zoely® as prescribed by your doctor.
Zoely® is a combined contraceptive pill containing two active substances, nomegestrol acetate (a progestogen) and 17β-estradiol (an oestrogen)1. 17β-estradiol is the same as the hormone naturally produced by your ovaries during your menstrual cycle.1
Zoely® is a unique oral contraception, no other brand contains the same active ingredients in the same quantity as Zoely®.
Zoely® contains 28 pills so you take a pill every day, the first 24 pills contain active ingredients while the last 4 pills are placebo. This is different to many other combined oral contraceptives where you take the pill for 21 consecutive days and then have a seven day pill break.
Zoely® is also termed monophasic, this means that all the active pills (24) contain the same dose of estradiol (as hemihydrate) and progestogen (as nomegestrol acetate)1. If you are not currently on a hormonal contraceptive you should take the first tablet of your Zoely® pack on the first day of your period. This will protect you from pregnancy straight away and you don’t need to use any additional contraception.1
If you are changing from any other combined oral contraceptive pill to Zoely®, then you should take the first tablet of your Zoely® packet the day after you take your last active pill from your old pill packet, or at the latest on the day following the usual tablet-free or placebo tablet interval of your previous combined oral contraception (COC). This will protect you from pregnancy straight away.1
Zoely® works by changing the body’s hormonal balance to prevent ovulation, by altering the cervical mucus and by thinning the endometrium (the lining of the womb). 1
